Toshiba to Launch 320GB Laptop Hard Drive →
Toshiba is launching a 320GB laptop hard drive with 5400 rpm and a 200GB model with 7200 rpm. Both support motion sensors so they will hopefully be compatible with MacBook Pros, and both allegedly have higher (320GB 5400) and much higher (200GB 7200) data transfer rates than current high-capacity notebook drives. That’s getting there, but still not quite. What I need for my MacBook Pro is a...

Is the universe a computer simulation? →
In terms of quantum mechanics the question as to whether our reality is a simulation or not is actually quite moot. To begin with, it is now as certain as science can be that matter as we subjectively perceive it does not exist — the huge majority of what we experience as matter is actually empty space and the rest is tiny areas of energy events popping in and out of “existence”...

Black Day Posts 3
Despite its rave reviews, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess for the Wii is a total pain in the ass. Ninety percent of the time is spent running round in circles trying to figure out whether there’s a puzzle to solve. The Wii controller doesn’t really work at all for the fight modes and many of the weapons and magic powers don’t work as they’re supposed to. Yesterday I...

Dr. Kawashima is probably the most annoying person on the planet. Every time one of his patronizing comments pops up on his DS Lite “Brain Age” program I want to give him a smack across the chops.

The stock exchange is a casino, ethics have been in the garbage pail for decades and pricing isn’t dictated by value, it’s dictated by how much you can grab. The bad guys won. John Lennon is dead, Mark Chapman is still alive and we really aren’t in Kansas any more.

Terrorism has killed around 3,000 Americans. Homicide kills 96,000 every year, suicide 180,000, medical mistakes 264,000. Guess what? Doctors are the real terrorists!

A few years ago polymer engineers accidentally invented a kind of plastic cord that ties itself into knots when a short length of it is placed in a small, enclosed place like a jacket pocket. For some time nobody could think of any practical use for this material, then the consumer electronics industry bought it and used it to sheathe the cables of earbud headphones.

Brits travelling to US will reveal all →
A new agreement going live at the end of the month will give the US immigration authorities unlimited access to a huge amount of data on passengers arriving from Britain, including information on their religion, food preferences, medical history and even their sex lives.

New from Apple: the iTit!
Apple Computer announced today that it has developed a computer chip that can store and play music in women’s breast implants. The iTit will cost $499 or $599 depending on size. This is considered to be a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

Ebay iPhone jackal screws herself →
A woman planning to buy $100,000 worth of iPhones to sell on eBay paid $800 for the first place in a line, without checking first that each customer is only allowed to buy 1 phone. The person she bought the phone from got a free phone + $200. Cool!

w00t!!! I upped the memory in my Mac Pro from 3GB to 5GB. This computer flies now! I don’t think it’s just the extra memory (although that’s great for lots of Parallels sessions) — I think having all 4 slots in the first riser card full makes a real difference.

Seems that so many business users want to switch back from Vista to XP that Microsoft needs to “simplify” the process.
